Burlington residents should not have to hire security firms to address crime in their neighborhood

With communities in Burlington starting to hire their own private security companies, the city is failing on providing a safe environment for Burlington residents and families. A proper analysis needs to be initiated looking into the data associated with car theft and home invasion. Just saying 'hire more police' is not necessarily the solution..

Angus Reid poll - 62 per cent of Canadians feel crime is increasing.

Halton Police Service say crime in the region has been historically low since 2014

Based on the Angus Reid poll and the data that is coming from police, it doesn't seem consistent. However, there needs to be a full analysis done on what crimes are consistent and what are the respobse times of police. If there are delays, is this due to lack of officers on duty or crimes being reported at a later time.

Adding more police officers come at a high cost, so if there are challenges with security in a neighborhood, options could include satellite unit stationed in a neighborhood. Option of added security with private firms may not be ruled out. These discussions need to happen with all parties involved.
